From Thin Air is an immersive installation that responds to the idea of losing control, being out of control, as well as acceptance and surrender.

A multitude of images, including forest fires, a woman under hypnosis, and an infant experiencing an epileptic seizure, are projecd onto suspended rotating mirrors and transparent plexiglass. The images reflect and float slowly across the surrounding walls. The use of reflective, translucent and transparent materials, coupled with pre-recorded video images and casted illusionary shadows; work in concert to bring about a complex, provocative and engaging environment. This installation responds to the concept of ‘Phantasmagoria lantern projection’. The intention is not only presenting effects, but also including the apparatus that generates the visual phenomenon. The deliberate, simultaneous display of the apparatus and their effects counters traditional notions where only the manipulated outcome is meant to be perceived and experienced by the audience.
