Info
False consists of bright florescent orange ropes tied into a net-like configuration.
|
The ropes cascades and tapers 30 feet down the side of a rock face and is partly immersed in the dark pool. Over time, the colour will fade and the rope and trail tape will deteriorate. Anything that couldn't grow on this steep incline now has a foothold. Climbing vines and other assortment of vegetation will eventually integrate themselves into and partially obscure this work. The reflection on the pond’s surface is an integral part of the work and plays with the trope of traditional landscape painting in which one often see mirror-like reflections over pristine water surfaces. The 3 works, False, Tempest and Psycho, commissioned by the Tree Museum located just north of Gravenhurst, are all process-based in one way or another: that is, they rely on the processes of nature such as wind, waves, growth of plants, etc. to be complete as works of art.
